Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is one of the premier institutions of India founded in 1984 by Dr. G. Viswanathan, the Chancellor of the University. Dr G Viswanathan became the first Asian to be Honoured with a PhD degree by the West Virginia University, USA in 2009 for his significant contributions to higher education of India and societal development. Government of India has recognized VIT as one of the Institutions of Eminence (IoE) of India.

VIT sets the record, as Seven of the subjects made way to the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject in 2021. Seven subjects of VIT are within the top 450 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

 VIT has national accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Govt. of India with A++ grade. 

 VIT has published the highest number of research publications in India in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 as per Elsevier (Scopus) database. There is a significant growth of h index since the year 2015. VIT has established some of the state of art laboratories in collaboration with industries and Govt. of India. VIT has ten research centres in futuristic areas and has 300+ global academic partnerships in operation.
