The University of Béjaia, created in October 1983, is a multidisciplinary public institution. It counts today more than 40 000 students, 2477 teachers and more than 1250 technical and administrative staff, distributed on eight faculties. She has succeeded in setting up trainings more and more in phase with the world of work. This approach has enabled it to be more responsive to the needs of its economic partners in terms of human resources and skills.
The University of Béjaïa has about thirty approved research laboratories on several areas. She has undertaken an important work of structuring so that research can be registered in the national and international competition and constitute a dynamics favorable to its development and its radiation. Indeed, it has registered several projects for the development of research in particular: a technological incubator - a Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer - a National Center for Research in Agro-Food Technology.
Widely open to its socio-economic environment, the University of Béjaia has continued to work to encourage sustainable development and be in harmony with the challenges of globalization. The rapprochement between the university and the local and national economic sector is now an objective reality, a challenge, a strategy of the University of Béjaia for the implementation of promising projects. Thus, several framework agreements have been signed with companies of national importance. The University-Company Partnership has become one of the priority themes in a changing economic context. In this context, since 2007, a forum on the University and the productive world is organized every end of the academic year. It is a space for exchange and debate on current scientific and socio-economic issues. In this context, the university has set up a university/business liaison office (BLEU).
The willingness of the University of Bejaia to open up to the world is reflected today by the signing of more than sixty framework agreements of cooperation with universities in several countries (France, Italy, Russia, Spain, Romania, Canada, Ukraine, Tunisia, etc.). These agreements were designed to facilitate scientific exchanges, mobility of teachers, researchers, students and academic staff. The university aims to build bridges of exchange of experience and skills but also the improvement of teaching methods, boost scientific research and build a network of solid and sustainable cooperation.
The University of Bejaia participates in several academic exchange programs such as the European program of Erasmus Mundus scholarships (four programs Averroes, Green It, BATTUTA and UNetBA), the Tempus Meda program (employability, tourism, communication, international relations, inclusive education, etc. ...); the program CMEP / Tassili, and DEF / CNRS with France, the program PCIM with Spain and Italy and others.
The University of Béjaia provides 60 bachelor's degree courses, covering 12 of the 14 fields of higher education. It also provides in the traditional system the training of doctor of medicine. Currently, 176 training offers (including 60 licenses and 116 masters) are operational at the University of Bejaia. Among the training offers provided by the University of Bejaia, 7 are of a professional nature. Moreover, the University of Béjaia offers doctoral training in the 40 fields with various specialties and covering the different fields of research.
