The University of Oviedo is a public university located in the scenic region of Asturias, in northern Spain. For over 400 years it has been the main centre and disseminator of academic knowledge in the region and a leader in international cooperation and innovation.
The University has campuses in Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in arts and humanities, law, social sciences, engineering, health sciences, and natural sciences. It has 56 undergraduate degrees, 66 master’s degrees and 28 doctoral programs, some of them with an international or interuniversity character. It has over 20,000 students and 1,500 faculty members, who benefit from the University’s modern facilities, such as libraries, sports centres, laboratories, or classrooms equipped with the latest technology. The University also offers various cultural activities, such as concerts, exhibitions, theatre, cinema, and conferences, and career guidance services to help students find internships or jobs.
The University welcomes more than 1,000 international students every year and has partnerships with prestigious higher education institutions worldwide. It participates in various mobility programs, such as Erasmus+, SICUE and ISEP, that allow students to study abroad for some time. It also collaborates with national and international companies to provide its students with a high-quality education and to foster innovation and research. The University offers various double-degree agreements that allow students to obtain two official degrees from different universities, enhancing their academic profile and employability. The University is responsible for 80% of the research conducted in the region, demonstrating its excellence and impact. The University has several research centers of excellence, such as the Institute of Oncology of Asturias (IUOPA), the Institute of Natural Resources and Territorial Planning (INDUROT), or the Institute of Industrial Technology of Asturias (IUTA), that carry out cutting-edge research projects in various fields.
The University of Oviedo ranks well among Spanish and European universities and leads the INGENIUM Alliance, an alliance of ten European universities on the way to creating an international campus.
