National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is a leading comprehensive research university located in Hsinchu, a beautiful city in North Taiwan where is also known to be the heart of high-tech of this country. The glorious history of NTHU can be traced back to the first half of the 20th century. In 1911, NTHU was established as “Tsing Hua Academy” in Beijing, China. And then re-instated in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1956 by the original President Yi-Chi Mei (1889-1962).
Over the last sixty years, NTHU has developed to an institute housing 12 colleges with more than 140 degree programs open for international students ranging from science, engineering, nuclear, life science & medicine, electrical engineering & computer science to humanities & social science, technology management, arts, education, semiconductor and more.
Based on a student body of 17,000 and a faculty of 2,000, NTHU provides a stimulating and nurturing environment where our faculty can offer quality teaching and conduct innovative research. Regarded as one of the top research universities, our research and development activities across the universities emphasize fundamental discoveries at the forefronts of basic sciences and exploration of breakthrough technologies with a high potential for applications.
